Austin is the capital of Texas and the state’s fourth largest city. It is the 15th largest in the United States. Home to a young vibrant scene of artists, foodies, and tech companies, Austin is annually ranked one of the nicest large metropolitan areas in the U.S.

The University of Texas calls Austin home, as does Dell computers, and the official slogan of the city is “The Live Music Capital of the World,” although the unofficial slogan is “Keep Austin Weird.” The latter comes via the many young people who resist the large scale corporations and governmental industries that predominate in so many urban centers. There is also an Austin Film Festival, the music festival South by Southwest, and E 6th St., which boasts one of the rowdiest bar scenes in America and a is must-see for any visiting tourists.

Situated on the Colorado River, Austin experiences a year round warm climate. The average temperature in January is 60 degrees and in August it’s 96. The wettest month of the year is May, but yearly the city receives little more than 33 inches of rain.

Although Austin has a small town vibe, it supports a wealth of industry, technology and culture. Located just a few hours away from Mexico, it is a young and vibrant cosmopolitan city that shares in its Texan roots.
